Traditional academic dinner parties (“sitsit”)

Sitsits are academic dinner parties organised by discipline-specific student organisations, which include food and drink, as well as traditional songs and other programming.

Appro = bar hopping

In Appro you’re supposed to go around predetermined bars, restaurants around Joensuu’s city center and stamps in your crawl pass. After collecting required amount of marks, the participant achieves equivalent degree.  Popular appro’ in Joensuu are After Ski appro (in March), Kasiappro (in April) and Marrasappro (in November).

Usually the Appro tickets are sold in Kide.app.

May Day (VAPPU)

May Day is among the central student celebrations of the year.  Officially, celebrations kick off on 30 April when the Big rocks statue at outside of Carelia is adorned with a student cap, carrying on to the next day at the parks as Ilosaari and Kirkkopuisto.
